WAY TO GLO!

What are your go-to souvenirs when you travel? Personally, I have a penchant for discovering timeless skincare gems from the places I visit. These treasures are often found in local pharmacies, boasting simple yet effective ingredients and a dedicated following. Allow me to share with you a curated list of skincare products that I've collected during my travels. These remarkable finds have earned a well-deserved reputation for their exceptional performance, with formulas that have stood the test of time, some for over a century.

France - Homeoplasmine

It's a popular item from French pharmacies initially designed for nursing mothers to soothe chapped nipples. However, it's not limited to them - anyone can use it all over their body. It contains calming ingredients like calendula and benzoin, which is derived from tree bark. These ingredients help heal dry skin while providing a mild antiseptic effect to protect against infections. People love it because it dries with a mostly matte finish, making it perfect for a subtle glow or as a moisturizing base under matte lipsticks. Models, makeup artists, and French girls swear by it.

  • Loved for: Chapped lips, makeup primer, eczema, acne, burns, insect bites, sore nose

  • Star ingredients: Calendula officinalis, Phytolacca officinalis, Bryonia

UK - Sudocrem Antiseptic Healing Cream

Sudocrem, originally developed as a diaper rash cream, has proven to be a versatile over-the-counter remedy for various skin conditions. It's particularly beneficial for individuals dealing with eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, and breakouts. The key ingredient in Sudocrem is zinc, which acts as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, helping to soothe and reduce inflammation in the skin.

  • Loved for: Nappy rash, minor cuts & burns, eczema, scars, sunburn, molluscum, chilblain, hair dye barrier, insect bites, acne control,

  • Star ingredients: Zinc to help speed up the healing process

Australia - Bio-Oil

If this is not considered a miracle ointment, I don’t know what is. This product is a well-established combination of natural botanicals and potent vitamins, including soothing calendula and lavender, as well as vitamins E and A known for their ability to enhance cell turnover and promote skin healing. It has gained a reputation for its effectiveness, with even the Kardashian sisters relying on it for their comprehensive body care regimen.

  • Loved for: Acne scars, general scars, post-natal stretch marks, dry lips, itchy scalp, skin pigmentation, post tattoo treatment, flaky skin

  • Star ingredients: calendula oil, lavender oil, rosemary oil, chamomile oil and vitamins A and E to renew and condition skin

Italy - PREP Derma Protective Cream

In 1860, the renowned PREP brand was born with the creation of their iconic product, the PREP Original Formula Derma Protective Cream. This exceptional cream, designed to combat various skin irritations, has been a beloved choice for families across Italy throughout the years. Its presence has become inseparable from households, earning a place as an essential staple. Remarkably, the cream continues to be produced according to its original formula, standing the test of time and solidifying its status as a timeless classic, without relying heavily on advertising campaigns.

  • Loved for: Before & after shave, minor cuts & burns, insect bites, sunburn, chapped hands, nappy rash, sore feet

Germany - Weleda Skin Food

You're familiar with Skin Food—chances are, you already have it in your collection. This affordable cream hails from German pharmacies and is recommended for a variety of concerns like cracked heels, dry cuticles, and flaky skin. With its rich formula, consisting of lanolin, beeswax, cholesterol, and an abundance of essential oils, it's highly nourishing. Many makeup artists keep it in their kits as a natural eye gloss or radiant highlighter. It's no surprise that we're big fans of it too.

  • Loved for: dry flaky skin, but makeup artists keep it in their purse also as a natural eye gloss or a highlighter.

  • Star ingredients: sunflower seed oil, lanolin, bee’s wax

Singapore - Tiger Balm

This medicinal balm offers a refreshing, cooling sensation when applied to the skin, making it ideal for soothing achy muscles and tender areas. For quick relief from headaches, you can gently massage a small amount onto your temples. The invigorating sensation is derived from a blend of cassia (cinnamon) and menthol essential oils, but keep in mind that its potency means it should not be applied to open wounds or burns. With the help of its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, primarily from camphor, the balm provides instant comfort while also working to alleviate itchiness and dryness over time.

  • Loved for: headache relief when applied around the temple, joint & muscle pain, toenail fungus, mosquito bites, topical application to improve poor blood circulation.

  • Star ingredients: cassia oil, menthol essential oil, camphor
