WAY TO GLO!

As we age, many factors influence how our skin appears, and inflammation plays a pivotal role in accelerating the aging process. While inflammation is a natural response of the body to infection, chronic inflammation can have adverse effects on the skin, making it appear more mature than its chronological age.

While various lifestyle factors can trigger inflammatory responses within the body, understanding the connection between inflammation and premature aging can empower us to adopt preventive measures.

Without further ado, let’s get into the top 5 highly inflammatory foods to avoid or reduce in your diet.

No 5. Processed Meats

Hot dogs, sausages, bacon, and other processed meats are often high in saturated fats, sodium, and preservatives. Research suggests that consuming these meats can trigger inflammation and increase the risk of chronic diseases. Instead, opt for lean sources of protein like poultry, fish, tofu, or legumes.

No 4. Trans Fats and Hydrogenated Oils

Trans fats and hydrogenated oils are prevalent in processed and fast foods, as well as many baked goods and margarines. These fats not only raise bad cholesterol levels but also promote inflammation throughout the body. To avoid them, read food labels carefully and choose healthier fats like olive oil, avocado oil, and fatty fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids.

No 3. Refined Carbohydrates

White bread, white rice, and other refined grains have had their essential nutrients and fiber removed, leading to a quick rise in blood sugar levels. This rapid spike can contribute to inflammation and other metabolic issues. Choose whole grains like quinoa, brown rice, oats, and whole-wheat products to keep inflammation in check while maintaining better digestive health.

No 2. Excessive Alcohol Consumption

While moderate alcohol intake may have some health benefits, excessive drinking can lead to inflammation in the liver and other organs. Limit alcohol consumption and choose healthier alternatives like herbal teas, or infused water.

No 1. Refined Sugars

One of the most significant contributors to chronic inflammation is the overconsumption of refined sugars and artificial sweeteners. These include sucrose, high-fructose corn syrup, and various sugar substitutes like aspartame and saccharin. These ingredients can cause a rapid spike in blood sugar levels, leading to an increase in inflammatory markers.

GLO ABOVE & BEYOND

Just when you think the skincare business is competitive enough, a new player enters the space. This time it is none other than the Italian uber-luxury brand Prada.

Prada eyes to revolutionize the designer beauty industry with the launch of makeup and skincare products on August 1st. Collaborating with L’Oréal, the brand aims to redefine beauty by celebrating individuality and well-being. The collection embodies contemporary luxury beauty, emphasizing quality, innovation, and sustainability. Following the success of Prada Paradoxe, the feminine fragrance, this foray into makeup and skincare marks a significant step for the Milan-based brand.

Prada's makeup and skincare will debut on prada-beauty.com and prada.com on August 1st, followed by prestigious locations like Harrods and Selfridges in London on August 18th. Prices range from 45 Euros for lipsticks to 80 Euros for eye shadows and 360 Euros for creams—no doubt a hefty price tag. The U.S. brick-and-mortar launch is planned for January 2024.

Prada Beauty's creation involved collaboration with designers and renowned artists like Lynsey Alexander and Inès Alpha, resulting in groundbreaking products. The Prada Reveal foundation line utilizes Adapto.gn Smart Technology, increasing the body’s resistance to any form of aggression and allowing the skin to adapt to its environment in real-time. This move by Prada aims to captivate a younger audience, while also prioritizing authenticity and contemporary luxury in the global beauty market.
